Howard Hughess Lincoln sells for $1 million at Tulsa auction
Thu, 18 Jun 2009A 1936 Lincoln Boat Tail Speedster--customized to the personal tastes of Howard Hughes--sold for $1 million at the Leake Car Show & Auction on June 13 in Tulsa, Okla. The head-turning blue and polished aluminum classic was the headliner at a sale that raked in $12.2 million and attracted more than 10,000 people to the three-day event. The Boat Tail is a truly unique car.
Audi plays paintball with RS4 Avants
Tue, 26 Feb 2013The latest generation of cars from Ingolstadt has finally mitigated the nose-heavy feeling we didn't enjoy in previous automobiles from the company. Now they've mitigated the lack of paintball guns, adding them to a pair of RS4 Avants -- done up in Spy-vs.-Spy black and white, natch -- and setting them loose in a hangar, framing the whole shebang with a smidge of Super Nintendo-vintage video-gaminess. Still no dice on getting one in the states, though.
Concept Car of the Week: Mercedes T80 (1939)
Fri, 19 Sep 2014In the decade before World War II, no other carmaker even came close to matching the combined dominance of Mercedes-Benz and recently founded Auto Union. Supported by Adolf Hitler's Nazi government, the two brands had grander plans to demonstrate Germany's technological supremacy. In August 1936, Auto Union engineer Ferdinand Porsche and race car driver Hans Stuck approached Wilhelm Kissel, chairman of Daimler-Benz, and presented a plan to build a car that would set a new land speed world record.
