Here we have for sale our 250mm long M.O.S.T fiber optic POF Polymer (or Plastic) Optical Fiber extension cable with brass ferrule ends suitable for use in automotive MOST fiber optic rings to control audio/visual equipment. We can also supply the following cable lengths: 500mm, 750mm, 1000mm, 1500mm, 2000mm and 4000mm, please see our other listings for other cable lengths or contact us for bespoke requirements. Our high quality cables are manufactured to exacting standards under strict Quality Assurance procedures. Please be aware that some fibre optic cables originating from the Far East are inferior in quality and the ferrule ends are not fusion welded. This may result in data being 'dropped' on the fibre optic ring causing spurious faults.

European vehicle manufacturers including Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Audi, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volkswagen interconnect the audio/visual equipment within their vehicles using a M.O.S.T (Media Orientated Systems Transport) fiber optic ring. We have been advised that other vehicle manufacturers also use the M.O.S.T ring with Tyco (TE) connectors including Aston Martin, Honda, Toyota, Volvo, General Motors, Hyundai and Kia. We can see no reason why this extension cable should not also be fully compatible with these vehicles.

The common modules connected on a vehicle M.O.S.T ring are: CD Changer, Video Display, GPS Navigation, Mobile Phone, Voice Recognition, Amplifier and Digital/FM/AM Tuner.

If you wish to repair, adapt or extend an automotive fiber optic ring (i.e. to add an additional module to the ring) you will require additional fiber optic cables with ferrule end connectors to repair, extend or modify the existing M.O.S.T ring while maintaining the integrity of the ring. We can also supply at extra cost Tyco (TE) male connectors, Tyco (TE) female connectors and Tyco (TE) in-line connectors to extend the ring or bypass a faulty section of the ring. Please ask for further details.

Vehicle M.O.S.T rings include a male Tyco connector at each module location which plugs into the back of the modules.  This male connector has a fiber optic "in" and "out" cable forming a fiber optic ring linking all the modules together with the head unit.

A typical application for the use of this cable is to extend the existing fiber optic ring to add a new module to the ring i.e. a CD changer or to bypass a faulty section of the ring. The existing fiber optic ring cable and our new extension cable can be joined by our Tyco in-line connector (which we can supply at extra cost). This connector will correctly align the two ends of the fiber optic cables to ensure no data loss or corruption at the joint. Please note that your vehicle may need to be 'programmed' to recognise any new module fitted.

For further background information we have included links to the manufacturer's drawings for the male Tyco connector, Tyco cable terminator and female Tyco connector so that you can ensure compatibility with the type of MOST fiber optic ring and connectors fitted in your vehicle.

Mercedes Owners Only

Early Mercedes vehicles were fitted with a D2B fiber optic ring which used a different type of cable ferrule end connector. Between 2004 and late 2006 Mercedes transferred to the standard M.O.S.T fiber optic ring system. Our M.O.S.T cables will not fit the D2B system, so if your Mercedes is a pre-2007 model, please check if it is fitted with D2B or MOST connectors prior to ordering. The earlier D2B system is shown in the photo on the left below, the M.O.S.T system is in the photo on the right

Jaguar F-Type 3.0 litre V6 Supercharged engine trailered (video)

Mon, 18 Jun 2012

The Jaguar F-Type is to get a new 3.0 litre V6 Supercharged engine and Jaguar are trailing it in a new video ahead of launch. We finally learnt in April that the C-X16 Concept would come to life as the Jaguar F-Type and just a few days later that the F-Type would be getting a new V6 supercharged 3.0 litre engine (amongst others). But with the launch of the Jaguar F-Type Roadster still almost a year away (spring 2013), Jaguar are keeping up the marketing impetus with a trailer video of the new supercharged lump destined for the E-Type’s spiritual successor.
