M46-62112

The mid 1980s was the beginning of the end for distributors in regard to new cars. The Buick Grand Nationals started using coil pack technology while many other GM vehicles were using dual tower coil packs sometimes known as Waste Spark systems. When Ford moved to the 4.6L Modular engine in the 96 Mustang, there were two coil packs with four towers each set up as a Waste Spark. Other common applications came from Mitsubishi and eventually Chrysler systems.
MSDs DIS Ignition Controls are designed for engines with coil pack, waste spark ignition systems. The DIS-2 has two channels, to fire two coil packs, while the DIS-4 is capable of firing up to four coil packs (or even for individual coils). Each Control delivers full power Capacitive Discharge sparks from idle through racing rpm. Below 3,000 rpm there is a series of multiple sparks that last for up to 20 to improve idle, starting and throttle response.

Mitsubishi Scrappage – now on 5 year old cars

Wed, 27 May 2009

Mitsubishi are now offering the Scrappage allowance on cars from 5 years old [ad#ad-1] Despite our reservations about the Scrappage scheme in the UK, it would seem that it is proving to be a good handle to hang sales publicity on for car makers. Hyundai have told us about their successes and the interesting trade-ins they’ve had on cars sold under the Scrappage scheme, and we reported recently on two guys buying Nissan GT-Rs with the Scrappage allowance. And now Mitsubishi are using the Scrappage scheme to promote new car sales.

Chevy Volt will do 230mpg

Tue, 11 Aug 2009

GM are claiming 230 mpg for the Chevy Volt The premise is that the vast majority of buyers for the Chevy Volt will do no more than 40 miles a day. Which just happens to be the range that the Volt has. So I suppose they could have worked out the cost of the electricity to fully charge the Volt, converted that in to the cost of petrol and come to the conclusion that it does 230mpg.

2012 Lexus GS: UK to get GS 450h & GS 250 – but no diesel

Thu, 28 Jul 2011

2012 Lexus GS to get a 2.5 litre V6 in the UK - the GS 250 The more we learn about the 2012 Lexus GS the more appealing it becomes which, considering the current GS is the most appealing driver’s car in the Lexus range, bodes well for the new GS. We know, for example, that Lexus intend the new GS to be a “…high-performance concept that can deliver an inspiring driving experience.”, which is an easy PR statement to make, but a not so easy promise to fulfil. But if early reports are anything to go by, it’s all looking rather interesting.
