I am a long time fan of MSD products and have been using their ignition boxes for over 30 years. I bought this one at SuperShops speed shop about 12 years ago. (Remember them?)

The MSD 6A makes the engine run smoothly and start reliability. Since I mounted it in my car's interior under the dash, I decided to paint it flat black so it would not look so obvious. I suppose that the paint could be removed with a little work. However, I believe that the black color helps it dissipate heat better. The serial number is not painted and is normally covered with tape. For the last few years I have been running a dual ignition system and this was the backup unit. The 6AL was the primary because it has a rev limiter. So, this one was rarely used. I have switched this one on many times and it has always worked perfectly. I have replaced the "difficult to find" MSD electrical connector to the distributor pickup with an SAE connector.

I removed this module when I converted my car to a distributorless ignition system.

You will not regret purchasing this ignition controller. I have won many events with it and you can too.

The 1980s classic cars that could become MOT-free

Tue, 26 Aug 2014

A change of law in 2012 meant that cars registered before 1960 no longer have to pass the yearly test for roadworthiness known as the MOT. However, a new EU directive means that, from 2018, this could be extended to all cars more than 30 years old, as long as they haven’t been substantially modified.
