The deadline for the 2012 Car Design News – Opel/Vauxhall Interactive Design Competition has been extended until midnight (00:00 GMT) Friday 11 May. Mark Adams, Vice President Opel/Vauxhall Design, announced the news in a video message to all entrants, in which he reiterated the brief – to design the Opel/Vauxhall Ampera of the year 2020. All students must submit both an exterior and interior design to be eligible to win paid internships within GM Europe, Opel/Vauxhall's parent company.

Last month I returned from my second consecutive Nurburgring 24hr race, so I was excited to be getting my first taste of Le Mans last weekend. Two very similar concepts, yet the endurance races at the Ring and Le Mans differ hugely, and both excite for very different reasons. Ferrari 599 successor to debut at Geneva show

Ferrari has confirmed that the follow-up to the 599 Fiorano will debut at the Geneva motor show next month. The latest in Ferrari's long line of front-engine V12 GT cars, which stretches back to the 166 Inter of 1948, it's rumored to boast in the neighborhood of 700 hp. That's roughly double the power of the 365 GTB/4 pictured above, which Dan Gurney and Brock Yates famously used to cross the country in 35 hours and 54 minutes back in 1971.
