The downsizing trend continues apace and the new warm-hatch Fiestas are first to get a higher-output version of the 1.0-litre three-cylinder Ecoboost engine, tweaked to 138bhp thanks to variable cam timing, higher turbo boost and direct injection. Nissan boosts electric charging network

NISSAN is accelerating plans for a European-wide Quick Charge (QC) network for electric vehicles by giving away 400 new quick charging stations free of charge. These new points will boost existing networks and give EV customers greater freedom and flexibility by effectively extending the range of their car. Countries across Europe have been asked to pitch for a charging network and the best ‘bids’ will win an allocation of chargers.

Toyota starts 'rubbish revolution'

TOYOTA has been talking garbage, with ambitious plans to turn waste gases from a landfill site into electricity for building low-emissions cars. The firm’s factory in the American town of Georgetown, Kentucky, will use the new method of harvesting power to both lower its own fuel bills and reduce the amount of harmful gases escaping into the atmosphere. With the system expected to be up and running within 12 months, Toyota has revealed how it is expected to work.
