Here we have a Ford "N" case C4AW Big Bearing Nodular Steel 9" Chunk with a 31 Spline Posi Traction (Trak-Lok) carrier assembly It is set up with Ford 4.30:1 gears, and a original clean Posi carrier, which is designed to eliminate wheel spin and add traction to that high-performance Ford product which has a 9 inch rear. With the power that the Boss 302 and the 428 Cobra Jet as well as the Boss 429 the Ford engineers decided to redesign the housing adding a high nickel content steel to the rear end case and the N case rear was born. Factory cast with a better design as well as a superior Nickel grade metal this unit would handle the extra torque of the higher powered muscle cars. This is a factory Ford race ready part that offers the extra strength of a "N" Nodular case and the low end torque of the 4.30 drag pak gear. This rear assembly is also equipped with the stronger solid front flange Daytona pinion support which eliminated another weak link in this bullet proof case. In additon it also has the Ford safety factor of a pinion snubber to protect driver if the driveshaft or U Joints were to fail. As you can see it is dated 9E15 which is May 15 th 1969 correct for cars from February March and April of 1969. During the rebuild we disassembled the rear inspecting all pieces for damage or wear. Once we were satisfied all parts were ready for installation we tested the posi unit for torque and it had 110 ft lbs. We replaced the bearings with high quality new units also adding a new crush collar and seal. This is a ready to install trouble free unit. Cleaned and inspected this reconditioned unit is damage free and we find it in good working order with non slipping clutches. The factory gears have very little wear with a nice clean pattern and no play in the new bearings. This nice unit has not been installed and will not whine or chatter this is the real deal set up by a master mechanic and is sure to take whatever horsepower you throw at it. This chunk will install in almost any Ford V8 vehicle with a 9 inch rear and 31 spline axles such as a Shelby Mustang , Mach 1 , Boss , Torino , Cobra , Falcon , Fairlane , Ranchero , Comet , Cyclone , Cougar , Eliminator , Montego , Maverick , or even a 4 wheel drive Ford Pickup. This rear, commonly used in these vehicles, will give it the punch and go that you need. Blame the need to appeal to buyers in over 160 countries, and Nissan’s desire to keep its cost down – fancy steel pressings cost cash.
