Online driving licence to reduce insurance costs
Thu, 09 Jan 2014First the tax disc, now your driving licence, as government plans to put driving records online are set to make the paper counterpart licence obsolete – reducing your car insurance premium in the process. By creating an online record that insurance companies can easily check, ministers and the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency (DVLA) expect insurance costs to fall, as insurers will be able to exactly analyse risk rather than hedging their bets. Well, if it did, it’s taken a full five months since then for Vauxhall to get real Corsa VXR Nurburgring Editions in to their showrooms. But now they’ve got there, and the Nurburgring Edition does look a fun little hot hatch.
Saab gets a ray of hope from China
Sun, 11 Sep 2011Victor Muller sees a glimpse of sunshine from China The saga that is the long and painful demise of Saab seemed to reach its nadir last week when courts in Sweden refused to offer the beleaguered car maker sanctuary in its protection. We thought that would be the end for Saab – despite a never-say-die appeal of the decision by Victor Muller, due to be heard tomorrow – with nowhere left to hide from trade supplier debts of €150 million, and the wrath of Sweden’s unions ready to file for Saab’s bankruptcy over unpaid wages for Saab employees. The nadir for Saab should reasonably be followed by its rapid consignment to the annuls of motoring history, but a tiny glimmer of hope has risen from Saab’s putative investors in China.
