On the market for less than a year, the new A Class has been a big success story for Mercedes-Benz with 100,000 orders on its books by the end of 2012 as buyers fell for the appeal of MB’s first really credible compact car. And that appeal was wide, with everything from frugal diesels to the range-topping A45 AMG, which offers the promise of not just stunning performance from its 335bhp, but decent economy and practicality when you’re not in the mood to blat.

The Powerkit – as its name suggests – delivers an increase in power (and torque) over the standard car, and is exclusively available on the Panamera Turbo. The Panamera Turbo left us a little underwhelmed when we put it through its paces a year ago, chief issues being the packaging, styling and ergonomics.

Sun, 24 Nov 2013Mercedes G63 AMG 6×6 vs G63 AMG The Mercedes G 63 AMG is a mad car in its own right (although not as mad as the G 65) and costs almost £125k before you start ticking any option boxes. But the G 63 AMG is bullet proof, will go anywhere and does come with many of the luxuries you’d rightfully expect in a £125k car, even if its on-road handling – particularly if you decide to make the most of the 5.5 litre V8 turbo’s performance – is pretty woeful round the bends. Mad and irrational though the G 63 may be, it now has an even madder sibling – the Mercedes G 63 AMG 6×6 – which not only adds an extra axle for 6WD but comes at a price – almost £400k – that makes the G 63 seem a bargain.
