One Lap of the Web: Packards -- Ask the man who knows way too much about one

-- For some light Wednesday reading, here's more information than you ever wanted to know about Packard. It includes the horrible neoclassics that plagued the 1970s, and the 1995 revival of the Packard name that attempted to stick a shortened rendition of the famous Packard grille in front of a 440-hp V12, all wrapped in a shape that looked like a melted Twix, as shown above. 2009 Mazda 3 hatchback unveiled ahead of Bologna

Mazda has today released the first pictures of the new Mazda 3 hatchback, ahead of the Bologna Motor Show on December 3rd. The pictures come hot on the heels of the recently announced saloon and, just like the saloon, the Mazda 3 hatchback is a much fresher design, with far more sporty pretensions. One of the big aims for Mazda with the 3 was, of course, a much more economical car without sacrificing the old model’s strengths.

Mitsubishi previews Tokyo motor show concepts

Mitsubishi Motors has released more details on three concept cars at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show, which we will be attending, and all three concepts have something in common -- they're all SUVs with hybrid technology. And three weeks before the start of the show Mitsubishi Motors has released more details previewing the concept cars since announcing the concepts earlier in October. First up is the Mitsubishi Concept GC-PHEV, in the center of the photo, which is meant to preview a next-generation full-size SUV with full-time four-wheel drive.
