With the 2014 Range Rover Sport now in the open after its debut at the New York Auto Show, we have video, photos, detail, spec and the Range Rover Sport configurator. James Bond reportedly got paid $1 million to drive the new Range Rover Sport briefly through Manhattan and Land Rover got endless column inches online and in print, trending status on Twitter and countless mentions on Facebook et al. So, a triumphant launch for Land Rover – and probably the star of the New York Auto Show too – and a great start for the new version of what has been Land Rover’s best-selling car until the Range Rover Evoque landed.

New car sales September 2014 best in ten years. But…

The Ford Fiesta was again the best-selling car – September 2014 We’ve got used to new car sales / registration reusing month after month, and September 2014 is no different. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) is reporting new registration for the important plate change month of September at 425,681 units, the strongest September performance since 2004 and the 31st month in a row new car sales have increased. But the SMMT do say that although September’s figures show yet another increase, it only represents a rise of 5.6 per cent compared to the March plate change registrations rise of 18 per cent, an indication that the new car marekt is starting to level off after nearly three years of growth.

McLaren 650s Configurator goes live

The McLaren 650S Configurator The new McLaren 650S arrived at the Geneva Motor Show last week – and as the 650S Spider too – and looks, and performs, far better than the 12C. That seems to point to the McLaren 12C being allowed to whither on the vine as McLaren’s customers opt for the new 650S instead of the 12C – even with a price difference heading towards £20k – although officially you can still buy a 12C (although we hear 12C production has been halted). We hear McLaren have already built a number of 650S models and now they’ve even got the 650S Configurator up on their website so customers – and dreamers – can spec up their new 650S.
