Audi A3 Cabriolet uncovered at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show

The new A3 Cabriolet becomes the fourth version of the new A3 range to go on sale – and Audi has announced a surprise here in Frankfurt, by revealing a hot 300hp S3 Cabriolet variant will be joining the range.

A profitable future for car makers relies to a great extent on yielding the best return they can from their own products, and using the products of other car makers to augment their own range at sensible money. That imperative explains the report today that BMW and Toyota are in talks to exchange technology at which they excel; Toyota with hybrid technology and BMW with diesel engines.

This past weekend he spoke at the Petersen as part of the Inside the MotoMan Studio series, hosted by friend of Autoweek George Notaras (past events have been with Ralph Gilles and Derek Jenkins). Lutz talked at length about his childhood in Switzerland, early memories working for Ford and Chrysler, the time he swayed BMW management away from building Mercedes-like luxoboats, and what Lee Iacocca was really like behind closed doors.
