Goodwood names the date for its 2014 events
Mon, 14 Oct 2013ON your marks, get set, open your wallets – the dates for Goodwood’s 2014 headline motorsport meetings have been announced. The immensely popular Festival of Speed is scheduled to take place from Thursday 26 June to Sunday 29 June. With action focused on the famous hill and in the grounds of Lord March’s estate, this increasingly family-focused event promises more of what’s made it so popular: iconic historic cars, an action-packed rally stage and plenty of manufacturer supported displays.
New Peugeot 208 production cut as sales disappoint
Tue, 09 Oct 2012Peugeot is cutting back on production of the new 208 as its sales fail to reach expectations, just six months on from launch. It’s not enough when Europe is ion the midst of an economic crisis and car buyers are polarised between ‘budget’ cars that offer more for less than mainstream offerings and ‘Premium’ models that are bought on the back of a preconceived notion of more kudos. That leaves car makers like Peugeot (and Renault, Citroen, Vauxhall, Ford, Opel, Fiat…) between a rock and a hard place, unable – or unwilling – to compete with the offerings from Korea and saddled with a brand that doesn’t have the ‘class’ of an Audi or a BMW or a Mercedes or even a VW.
Karmann-Ghia Coupé redesigned by Brazilian students
Wed, 31 Jul 2013The winners of the Karmann-Ghia Brazilian student competition to design a modern interpretation of its classic Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia Coupé have been revealed. Over almost 60 years the German-Italian company has become an important supplier of car bodies and tooling in Brazil, but the market has lacked a model carrying the Karmann-Ghia badge since the '70s. The original coupé, which inspired the contest, was launched in Brazil in 1962 and remained in the market for 10 years before it was replaced by the Volkswagen SP – considered the first car completely developed in the country.
