Ford lines up Mark Fields to succeed Alan Mulally

Ford Motor Co. has named Mark Fields its chief operating officer, putting him in line to succeed CEO Alan Mulally when he retires no sooner than the end of 2014. The appointment of Fields, 51, who has been president of Ford's Americas unit, was part of a sweeping overhaul of executive ranks unveiled Thursday.

The new Stingray comes with a 6.2 litre LT1 V8 offering a modest (for its size) 455bhp and 460ln/ft of torque, enough to get the Stingray to 60mph in under 4 seconds and, say Chevy, still offer ‘improved’ economy over the old model. Latest industry figures reveal more than 3.1 million petrol and diesel engines were produced at domestic plants in 2007, compared to just over 1.5 million cars. Output has soared recently, with more than half a million more engines leaving production lines in the last two years.
