Under that voluminous monocab body lies GM’s E-Flex plug-in hybrid system. It’s the latest trend in hybrids, allowing up to 30 miles of zero-emissions electric operation, after which the diesel engine kicks in to recharge the battery.
Maeda named new Mazda design boss, replacing van den Acker
Wed, 01 Apr 2009Ikuo Maeda is the new head of design at Mazda Motor Corp. The man who is credited with styling the Mazda's flagship sports car takes over for Dutchman Laurens van den Acker, 43, who has decided to leave the company "to pursue other interests," the automaker said in a statement today. Van den Acker, who joined Mazda in 2006, will remain at the automaker until April 10 to ensure a smooth transition for Maeda, Mazda said.

The Mazda6, which is the flagship model for the new generation of the automaker's product line, is the second creation – following the Mazda CX-5 compact SUV – to feature the new 'KODO – Soul of Motion' design language.
