Mercedes Ener-G-Force concept

The Mercedes Ener-G-Force concept is Benz’s answer to the 2012 LA Design Challenge brief to create the "Highway Patrol Vehicle 2025". As the name suggests, the large SUV is also a hint towards a future redesign of the classic Geländewagen G-Wagen/G-Class. Graphically this is most evident around the Ener-G-Force’s DRG with its dark mask incorporating deep-set lamps (here with ‘G’ lamp graphics), a surprisingly traditional Mercedes grille and characteristic fender-top turn signals.

Rated: self-braking cars that avoid a crash

The most recent advance in vehicle safety has to be the autonomous emergency braking system (AEB) – a sophisticated suite of sensors and electronics that monitors objects in front of your car, automatically applying the brakes for you if it senses you’re heading to hit something. Up until now these auto-brake features have not been rated, but ahead of a new 2014 test that will include AEB systems in its overall safety star scoring, Euro NCAP has put the some of the vehicles already equipped with this technology through their paces. 2012 British Grand Prix: Alonso takes pole for Ferrari at Silverstone

Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso has taken pole position in a rain-soaked qualifying at Silverstone for the 2012 British Grand Prix. Just like the rest of the UK in this miserable summer, Silverstone was soaked by endless rain with qualifying held up for an hour and a half as conditions became too dangerous to continue. Before the break – halfway through Q2 – Jenson Button had already succumbed to the conditions after slowing under a yellow flag after Timi Glock spun on a wet track leaving Jenson no time to set a time.
