Audi, Honda, Hyundai, and GM to bring Android to cars
Tue, 07 Jan 2014General Motors, Audi, Honda and Hyundai have joined forces with Google and Nvidia to form the Open Automotive Alliance (OAA), their overarching goal being the integration of Google's Android software into automotive infotainment systems. The OAA will use Android's open development model to bring a greater variety of functions to car infotainment systems, which have noticeably lagged behind smartphones when it comes to capability due to long development periods, fast changing technology, and a glut variety of incompatible systems. The alliance's first order of business will be to develop new Android platform features to enable the car to become a connected Android device.
LA Auto Show Design Challenge entries unveiled
Fri, 15 Nov 2013The 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show Design Challenge entries have been revealed a few days before the show is set to open. The theme of this year's design challenge is called "Biomimicry & Mobility 2025: Nature's Answer to Human Challenges.” With nature coming to be seen as one of the best R&D labs for design, and with biological knowledge doubling every five years, design studios were challenged to design vehicles that use biomimicry to increase the efficiency of mobility itself.
New Qoros at Geneva 2014 – looks like a Crossover/SUV
Fri, 27 Dec 2013New Qoros at Geneva 2014 – looks like a Crossover/SUV Chinese car maker Qoros – hoping to make inroads in to the European market with its Qoros 3 saloon – is heading for the Geneva Motor Show in March with a new model, teased today in a pair of photos. Qoros’s first production model – the Qoros 3 – arrived in production guise at Geneva this year as a convincing – if generic -looking – four-door saloon, which we did think an odd route to go to break in to Europe. But the next Qoros – previewed here in a couple of teaser photos – looks to be a production version of the Qoros Cross Hybrid Concept Qoros showed at Geneva and a much better route to grabbing a slice of Europe’s car sales.
