Ford reaches agreement to sell Volvo to Geely for $1.8 billion

Ford has reached an agreement to sell its Swedish brand Volvo to Chinese carmaker Geely for about $1.8 billion in a multinational sale expected to close in the third quarter of this year. The pending agreement was announced on Sunday morning, and Ford will continue to supply powertrains, stamping and other parts to Volvo after the sale. If it closes, the landmark deal delivers the premium Volvo brand--long a benchmark for automotive safety--to a Chinese firm that has ambitious plans for growth.

Mercedes are continuing some innovative marketing for the new A Class with the #YOUDRIVE campaign launching during X Factor. That must have worked to a degree – certainly as far as the Twitter aspect goes – as Mercedes is having another outing with another hashtag – #YouDrive – and a new marketing campaign for the A Class where viewers ’control’ the advert they’re seeing. Hackmobile Transit Connect wins Ford and MAKE magazine grand prize

Automakers have customization contests all the time, but that doesn’t always mean they’ll produce what the enthusiasts create. Splitting from tradition, Ford said it will build the Hackmobile Transit Connect Wagon that won its Ultimate Maker Vehicle Challenge. The Hackmobile was designed by Jon Atkinson, Becca Steffen, Riley Harrison and Michael Freiert, members of Twin Cities Maker.
