50,000 new drivers lose licence within two years
Sat, 30 Nov 2013Under current legislation, any new driver who receives six (or more) penalty points within two years of passing their test automatically has their licence revoked. Swiftcover.com has been sifting through the official data, and found that almost 50,000 new drivers have been banned in this fashion in the last four years. On Bing: see pictures of new drivers Find out how much a first car costs on Auto Trader The data, which comes from the Drive and Vehicle Licencing Agency (DVLA), reveals that 48,983 drivers have had their licence revoked under the 1995 Road Traffic (New Drivers) Act since 2009.
Mazda design chief Ikuo Maeda brings new meaning to zoom-zoom
Tue, 09 Mar 2010Ikuo Maeda, the new design chief at Mazda Motor Corp., earned the nickname "Speedy" for his lead-footed driving on the race course and off. He may be the only standing auto executive to have had his license revoked--twice. It's only natural then that Maeda, who took the design reins last April, views himself as the rightful guardian of Mazda's zoom-zoom brand heritage.
New Jaguar XJR UK debut next week
Fri, 07 Jun 2013The New Jaguar XJR (pictured) gets its UK debut at Moto Expo 2013 Lovers of powerful XJs were delighted discover that a new Jaguar XJR, which debuted at the New York Auto Show in April, will finally give them a properly sporty XJ, rather than the somewhat compromised SuperSport version of the current XJ with the 5.0 litre Supercharged engine. Jaguar has kept faith with the history of the XJR by giving the new model a subtle ‘Sporty’ makeover with only gentle go-faster bits – like ‘R’ badges, new alloys, quad tailpipes, small boot spoiler, front splitter and a subtle body kit – so the new XJR looks purposeful, rather than looking like its been dipped in a Halfords bargain bucket. The real changes come under the skin, with the new XJR getting the 542bhp version of the 5.0 litre supercharged engine, tweaked dampers and spring rates, refined active diff and DSC and new shift patterns for the 8-speed auto box.
