If the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG or the S65 AMG are too mild for your tastes, then German tuner Carlsson may have something for you. Ignoring for the moment the question of just how we already have entries from AMG, BRABUS, and Carlsson before deliveries of stock versions have even started in most of the world, Carlsson for the moment holds the top spot as far as claimed power figures are concerned. And those power figures depend on which engine choice you start out with.

Evidently, somebody at Galpin Auto Sports took a look at the dearly missed Ford GT -- there must have been one in their showroom -- and muttered out loud, "You know, this car just isn't rare or powerful enough." At that point, milk shot out of the nostrils of a bystander who had been standing within earshot. Seriously, 550 hp isn't cool. You know what's cool?

The 2010 VW Golf R with 265bhp and 4Motion
It won’t surprise you to learn that VW has dropped the heavy and thirsty (though quick) 3.2 litre V6 in the last hot Golf in favour of the 2.0 litre turbo found in the Scirocco. This engine deliver 265 bhp and should give the Golf R a 0-60mph of around 6.3 seconds – or less with the DSG ‘box. The Golf R will also get VW’s 4Motion all wheel drive to add to the mix, and a raft of styling changes.
