Peugeot 308 with 3-Cylinder engine sets new Fuel Economy Record. Sort of.

The new Peugeot 308 managed 99.1mpg in a fuel economy run in Spain Fuel economy records are a bit like official economy figures – they have little relevance in the real world. But that doesn’t stop car makers wanting a few headlines proving just how economical their cars can be, and that’s exactly what Peugeot has done with a fuel economy run in a new 308 fitted with their new 130bhp 1.2-liter PureTech three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. But instead of running the 308 in the real world, Peugeot chose to take their car off to the Almeria circuit in Spain – under the auspices of the UTAC (Union Technique de l’Automobile, Motocycle et Cycle) – to set a new record for fuel economy and distance driven on a full tank.

This is the facelifted Skoda Yeti, brought bang up to date with the current Skoda design theme thanks to front and rear styling tweak as well as a restructured model range. It’s a straight-edged, angular redesign, but we can’t help thinking that binning the old car’s bulbous grille and charming foglights has robbed the Yeti of its cheeky character. MINI Paceman Coooper S hits the Nurburgring (video)

The next MINI to hit showrooms – the MINI Paceman – has been caught testing at the Nurburgring ahead of a Paris Motor Show. We did think that the MINI Paceman – which arrived at the Detroit Auto Show last year as a concept – would make it to market as a Countryman Coupe. But just last month MINI let it be known that they’re actually going with the funkier Paceman rather than the descriptive, though predictable, MINI Countryman Coupe for the production version of the Paceman which will debut in production guise at the Paris Motor Show in September.
