Jaguar XF Diesel S (2008): first details

Mon, 29 Dec 2008

By Tim Pollard First Official Pictures 29 December 2008 00:31 Jaguar today announces a family of new higher-powered diesel engines, led by a rapid 271bhp version of the derv XF that's aimed squarely at the BMW 535d. It's the fastest diesel Jag ever – and will also slot into the XK coupe and cabrio. The diesel work-out is good news for the XF – today's 2.7-litre V6 turbodiesel doesn't have the clout to mix it with the best German engines. We've already complained about the slothful performance of our long-term test XF and the new, bigger 3.0-litre oil-burner should answer such criticisms.

Ferrari F70 takes test laps

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

It's a strange world we live in when, even in my short-to-medium lifespan, we've gone from the 1980 Ferrari 308 GTSi making either 205 or 214 hp—depending on who you're asking—to the Ferrari F70, which is rumored to make 950 hp with its V12 and KERS system. I would put an Excel graph here, but just imagine a line going up at a 45-degree angle to infinity. With all of that in mind, here's about five minutes of the camouflaged supercar flying around the test track with fantastic audio of the Italian stallion in action.

Lotus Evora 414E Range Extender EV moves forward

Sun, 28 Oct 2012

The Lotus Evora 414E – a Lotus Engineering range extender hybrid project – is still moving ahead with dynamic and durability testing now underway. On the surface the Evora 414E looked like every other Evora, but under the skin sat the first version of a Lotus range-extender platform with a pair of electric motors and a small, 3-cylinder range-extender engine promising impressive performance and economy. Despite the reveal of the 414E at Geneva in 2010, there’s not been a huge amount of news on Lotus pushing forward with the project, or at least not until we got the Infiniti Emerg-E Concept at Geneva this year that turned out to be underpinned by the Evora 414E platform.
