Mercedes To The Rescue This Winter
Wed, 20 Nov 2013WITH the winter weather already resulting in plunging temperatures, Mercedes is reminding us that it’s time to switch to winter tyres. Although still a rare thing in the UK compared to other European countries, manufacturers and tyre companies are hoping that UK motorists will eventually embrace cold weather tyre technology. When fitted, the tyres can help deliver shorter braking distances in low grip and cold conditions.
Subaru’s rear-drive sports car (2011) at 2011 Geneva motor show
Tue, 22 Feb 2011While Toyota unveiled a revised version of its FT-86 sports car at the 2011 Geneva motor show, Subaru chose to only preview the powertrain of its 'Toyobaru' rear-drive sports coupe. Subaru and Toyota are developing the car together, and each will produce a version of the rear-drive coupe in 2012, but so far it’s been Toyota that’s grabbed all the limelight. Yes, though Subaru was originally due to show a full concept version of its RWD sports car at Geneva, but has instead only revelead the powertrain and basic body shape – not the best move, as the Toyota looks good, and without body panels you only imagine this Scooby version to have bland, flat body panels. The engine is a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre flat four, and the car rides on 17in wheels.
One Lap of the Web: Senna's sweet go-kart
Fri, 16 May 2014-- Gran Turismo has always included some, uh, unique car choices for its video games. (Sure, the Patent-Motorwagen is significant, but hot-lapping the 1-hp horseless carriage in "Gran Turismo 4" wasn't exactly riveting, unless you used cheats.) So that's why Ayrton Senna's go-kart from the 1978 World Karting Championship should be interesting -- it's nowhere near as fast as his Lotus 97T, but it shows that "Gran Turismo" wasn't kidding when developers said they wanted fans to chart the entirety of Senna's life. Plus, if you make it go 352 mph you can finally stick it to Prost.
