Mazda Furai concept burns in Top Gear's hands

It's the 20th anniversary of Top Gear -- the magazine anyway -- and as it celebrates its 20th anniversary, the magazine has copped to the destruction of the Mazda Furai concept, which caught on fire while in its possession an unspecified length of time ago. "The 20th anniversary collectors" edition of BBC Top Gear magazine…reveals a host of until-now untold secrets," says a statement from the magazine's publisher, "including the truth behind the mysterious disappearance of Mazda's astonishing Furai concept (hint: it involves the East Anglia fire service)." Detroit Electric, Geely to develop fleet EVs for China

Geely Automobile Group and startup electric automaker Detroit Electric Inc. have agreed to develop electric vehicles and electric drivetrains for sale in China. Under the deal, the first EV will be a modified version of Geely's Emgrand EC7, which will go on sale early next year.

Home of NAIAS to be updated

The spiritual home of the NAIAS is set to be rejuvenated. The Cobo center in Detroit, home of the North American International Auto Show for over 24 years, is part of a $221 million project that will see it extended and renovated extensively. The Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority have announced that many of the improvements to the Cobo center will be ready for the 2012 NAIAS, although the project is unlikely to be finished until 2014.
