Vauxhall Rake concept (2011) at Frankfurt motor show
Tue, 13 Sep 2011Alongside the Astra GTC and Zafira Tourer, Vauxhall (and thus Opel) is unveiling something a little more ‘out there’ at the 2011 Frankfurt motor show. It’s this tiny city car, known by Vauxhall as RAK e, and which we’re going to call the Rake. The name is a modern take on the Rak 2, a rocket-powered Opel that hit 140mph in 1928.
Baby born after 100mph police chase
Thu, 19 Jun 2014A GROUP OF POLICE OFFICERS who pulled over a speeding car ended up facing a newborn baby instead of a criminal as a heroic grandfather delivered his granddaughter at the side of the road. Lola Mia Rose was born just as seven officers in four unmarked cars, who had chased her grandfather Colin Ellmore at speeds of 100pmh along the M275 in Portsmouth, surrounded the car. Her mother Tiffany, who has three other children, described the experience as "quite scary" and said she was "very proud" of her dad for delivering baby Lola.
Cost of fuel has increased 50% in seven years
Tue, 17 Sep 2013THE PRICE of fuel in the UK has increased by over 50% in just over seven years, according to a recent investigation. A study conducted on behalf of Asda Money indicates that the cost of fuel in the UK has risen from around 90p per litre at the start of 2006 to the current average of around £1.38. The Autumn Statement from the Chancellor of the Exchequer cancelled the proposed rise in fuel duty that was due to come into force on the first of January 2013, and which had already been postponed once, but UK motorists are still paying out at the pumps.
