Consulatation on 20mph speed limit
Tue, 22 Oct 2013BIRMINGHAM City Council has launched a public consultation on plans which could see around 90% of roads in the city given a 20mph speed limit. The authority believes the "20 is Plenty" scheme, costing around £7 million, would make residential streets safer and transport networks more sustainable. Key routes would keep higher speed limits under the long-term proposals, but public feedback is also being sought on whether the 20mph scheme should also be considered for busy high street shopping areas, around schools, leisure facilities, hospitals and public transport interchanges.
Subaru BRZ Turbo to get 280bhp
Mon, 22 Oct 2012The much hoped for Subaru BRZ Turbo – the Subaru version of the Toyota GT86 – is set to arrive in 2014 with 280bhp. Last year we reported that a Subaru BRZ Turbo was in the planning (even though the official line was that the BRZ and GT86 would stick with natural aspiration) and now it looks like development is well advanced and the BRZ Turbo will arrive in 2014. Automotive News are reporting that Subaru are working hard on a turbocharged direct injection version of the BRZ with a single twin-scroll turbo they’ve developed in-house, as opposed to the port injection system currently used in the BTZ, which is a Toyota system.
Volkswagen Polo R WRC Street previews production VW Polo R
Thu, 17 May 2012Volkswagen Polo R WRC Street The Volkswagen Polo R WRC Street that’s heading for the Worthersee Tour previews a production model of the VW Polo R. This time last year Ulrich Hackenberg, a VW Board member, confirmed that VW intended to build a production Polo R, and the Volkswagen Polo R WRC Street that’s arrived at the Worthersee Tour this week gives us a pretty good idea of what a Polo R will offer. VW make no mention of a 4WD platform for the Polo R in the stuff they’ve sent us, but with a 4WD version of the Polo platform developed for the Audi S1 and the Polo WRC car it seems likely VW’s new baby pocket rocket will be 4WD too.
