Vaxhall Insignia ecoFLEX Sports Tourer – Details
Mon, 24 Aug 2009Vauxhall has released details of the Insignia Sports Tourer ecoFLEX But performance is not quite the Holy Grail it once was for car makers. Times are more constrained, and more headlines get attached to the ‘Eco’ versions than the performance versions. So when Vauxhall announced the Insignia ecoFLEX back in April, it got as many – if not more – column inches as the Insignia VXR did (if not with quite the passion!).
Video: Track-day fun in the Lexus LFA
Thu, 06 Oct 2011As promised, the third installment in our supercar video extravaganza--after the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and the Porsche GT2 RS--gives you the lowdown on the hyperexotic Lexus LFA and its insane 552-hp V10 powerplant. Best described by senior editor for motorsports Mac Morrison as "shrieking like a melting witch," the Lexus LFA emits a wail unlike anything this side of a Formula One racer, and its performance isn't too far off that mark, either. Check out the walk-around and some on-track fun, then come back for the VBox lap on Friday.
AutoWeek office swag: Mazda rotary-engine keychain with realistic motion
Fri, 20 May 2011When I got the keys to our long-term 2011 Mazda 5 last week, they came with a surprise--this aluminum-and-brass keychain in the shape of a rotary-engine housing, complete with moving rotor. The rotor doesn't just rattle around or spin in a circle. Thanks to a thumbwheel on the back of the housing, coupled with a timing gear and offset crank journal, the thing actually moves in an approximation of epitrochoidal motion just like a real Wankel.
