BMW 5-series is in line for the company's new triturbo diesel engine

Wed, 23 Nov 2011

Details leaked from a dealer conference held in Holland this week suggest that BMW's upcoming 550dX will be the first recipient of the German carmaker's new high-tech triturbo 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engine. The new engine, which also is destined for the new X5 xDrive50d and X6 xDrive50d models, is claimed to produce 376 hp and more than 516 lb-ft of torque--some 70 hp and more than 74 lb-ft more than the most powerful version of BMW's existing twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engine, as found in the X5 xDrive40d. The radical new engine, which is rumored to use two traditional exhaust-blown turbochargers in combination with an electrically driven turbocharger to add low-end response, is planned to be offered exclusively with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive.

Dodge Hornet is go

Wed, 04 Jul 2007

By Tim Pollard Motor Industry 04 July 2007 12:30 The newly independent Chrysler Group has saved its deal with Chinese maker Chery - which means that the Dodge Hornet is a step closer to production. Dodge needs a partner with which to develop new smaller cars, like the Hornet, as it's too cash-strapped to fund them solo. The deal signed last night means that the two car makers will 'work together to develop, manufacture and distribute Chery-made small and sub-compact cars in North America, Europe and other major automotive markets under the Chrsyler Group brands.' No mention was made of the Hornet, but Chyrsler’s international director for sales and marketing, has previously told CAR Online that the firm would produce the butch supermini.

Baby Range Rover (2011) to have 2wd, sub 130g/km CO2

Mon, 10 May 2010

By Tim Pollard Motor Industry 10 May 2010 14:55 Land Rover today confirmed that next year's new baby Range Rover – the LRX concept car made real – will be the company's first car to offer front-wheel drive. It's part of the ongoing greening of the Land Rover brand, which risks being left behind by the environmental seachange. Dumping four-wheel drive on entry models will ensure the LRX will emit less than 130g/km of CO2 on the 2.2-litre turbodiesel model.Front wheel drive Land Rovers! Whatever next?'It's quite a departure for the company,' admitted a spokeswoman.
