RCA 'Future Car' design competition winner announced
Fri, 08 Jun 2012Michal Vlcek, a first-year student in the Vehicle Design department at London's Royal College of Arts, has been announced by the organizers of the London Motorexpo as the winner of the competition to design an innovative electric-powered car. The competition, which was open exclusively to RCA students, asked for designs for the four person electric vehicle of 2032, using "the packaging advantages of an electric motor to move way from the formulaic styling of many modern-day passenger cars". Vlcek's high-quality artwork and lateral thinking proved to be instrumental in his success.
Toyota Prius Plug-In is practically perfect in London
Tue, 26 Jul 2011Toyota Prius Plug-in - perfect London transport We though we ought to do Toyota the courtesy of a non-disparaging headline after the first interim results of trials of the Prius Plug-in in the hands of drivers in London have turned out to be very positive. Toyota and EDF Energy have supplied – on lease – 20 plug-in hybrids (PHEV) to London businesses and organisations (no Joe Public on this trial) to get some real-world feedback on usage, journey distance and recharging patterns. For those of you who don’t remember, the Toyota Prius Plug-in is a regular 3rd Gen Prius but with a length of flex and a set of lithium-ion batteries that allows users to grab some charge from the mains and to drive further in EV mode – up to 12.5 miles in perfect conditions.
Audi e-bike glides in to Worthersee
Sat, 19 May 2012Audi e-bike - a desirable object The Audi e-bike – a high-end pedalec – has been revealed at Worthersee and designed for sport, fun and tricks. If you’re going to make any form of transport work with an electric motor, then it’s really only sensible to make the EV bit just one part of the equation. That’s why range-extender cars are the only really viable alternative to a regular ICE car – if you ignore the extra cost – and why an electric bicycle makes so much sense.
