below are installation instructions please be careful

Installation:

Be careful here, take your time and everything will go as it is supposed to.

1. At first, take off the windscreen, then with a Phillips screwdriver, take off the 3 bolts behind the gauge and unplug the master plug behind the gages. If you are like me with bigger hands than the space there, you have to take off the upper fairing and unbolt the upper fairing stay, then you have plenty of space to unbolt the gage from the stay. You now have 5 Philips screws to take off, you are now ready to split it open, do it gently, nothing is going to fall down!

2. This one is important, put the gauge flat, with your finger, push the needle clockwise (left to right) until it passes the 8000 rpm and let it go to it's natural neutral (magnetic one in this case) prepare to make a mark on the white body with a pen, it is important to be precise here, align the mark of the pen with the tip of the needle.

3. Since I am sure no one has any special tools to take off the needle, do it like this, take some masking tape and apply 2 pieces of it on the 2 little screws each side of the needle, then take 2 screw drivers (flat ones). You have to act as a lever, the screwdrivers under the needle and the lever point on the 2 screws where you first applied tape, press down slowly and very straight till the needle goes up, be sure to be straight because you can bend the shaft of the needle! Some are easy to go up, some are not but they all go if the pressure is equal on both sides at the same time.

4. You are now ready to take off the original face plate, with a very small phillips screw driver, unbolt the 2 screws each side of the needle and put them aside.

5. Take the face plate in your hands and with your fingers push the plate down to take off the needle stopper, use a solid base, do not use any tools because the tip is made of plastic and is very soft it could be damaged if you do it wrong, go slowly because that thing likes to fly! now paste it on the new face plate, it will probably need to be glued in place now because the holes are a little bigger than needed.

6. Put the face plate in place and screw it back with the same little screws as before, then install the needle aligned precisely with your mark , note that the gauge has to be as flat as it were before when you did your mark. Press the needle a bit and test it, take it to the stopper (counter clock wise) and take it back to see if it aligns itself to the mark you made before, if not take it off again until you have it right on, then press the needle gently till it is the same distance from the plate that it was before, just a bit lower than the end of the needle stopper.

7. If you want, you can paint the tip of the needle with yellow finger nail paint, use tape to scale it, make sure to let it dry completely before re-assembling!

Turn the needle to the stopper, you are now ready to put back together the rest of the gage in the reverse order of the dismantling.

Ford Escort returns – for China: Shanghai Motor Show

Sun, 21 Apr 2013

The Ford Escort Concept has been built by Ford with the aim of taking a sizeable chunk of China’s compact saloon market – estimated at 5.5 million sales a year – and looks remarkably production viable and far from ‘budget’. Escort is a badge China knows – there are plenty of old Escorts floating around Chinese roads – so it’s a sensible move by Ford to revive a badge that already resonates as a compact, affordable saloon with Chinese car buyers. This new Escort gets a proper version of Ford’s latest design language – including the Aston Martin grill – and has good lines and strong detail including jeweled headlights with the lucky Chinese ’8′ discernible ; it looks entirely cohesive and nothing like a Focus with a boot grafted on.
