Just what does it mean when car parts are referred to as NOS, and why are these parts more valuable?

New Old Stock (NOS), sometimes called New Obsolete Stock, or even New Original Stock, are old or classic car parts manufactured for auto dealers to service and maintain their vehicles. These car parts were not sold at retail. In other words, it is an unused replacement part that is similar to, if not the exact same, as the original car part installed when the car was assembled. The term NOS not only refers to car parts but can refer to other industries too. In general, it can represent any merchandise being offered for sale which was manufactured long ago but that has never been used. 

The product is usually not being produced anymore, and the New Old Stock may represent the ONLY SOURCE of original replacement parts available.

Visitors to the recent Auto China in Beijing may have noticed an impressive new Chinese sports car – called Aculeus – on one of the smaller exhibitor stands. The concept car is the latest project undertaken by CH-Auto Technology Corporation – one of a growing number of automotive R&D service companies based in China that provides support to the OEMs. The company was established in August 2003 by Lu Qun, an engineer who originally trained at Tsinghua University and later specialized in engine development testing.

THE NEW Peugeot 308 will start from £14,495 when it goes on sale in the UK in January. The French company says it has simplified the range and the 308 will now be offered in Access, Active, Allure and Feline trims. All but the entry-level model come with alloy wheels as standard, while all new 308s have air conditioning, cruise control, digital radio, Bluetooth and LED daytime running lights.
