MOTOR DESCRIPTION:

Up for bid in this auction is a REALLY NICE and ORIGINAL 1938-40 era SEA KING by Montgomery Ward that is a 1.8 horsepower single cylinder outboard motor- presumably largely made from the Elto ACE platform of the same period. I have not taken the cowls off to look underneath to see what exactly the model number is of this motor but it’s like 8763 or 8765. This motor is all original with the exception of the tiller grip. Everything appears to be in FAR above average cosmetic condition- the often massively damaged prominent fuel tank does have a few small dents in it but nothing like the damage you normally see on these little Sea Kings.

The motor pulls over with good compression and all of the usual things that are broken or wrong with these motors are intact and pretty nice- including the SKEG which is perfect. The inside of the tank is pretty clean. I have not tried to start this motor but it pulls over with good compression and will surely run given the usual tinkering of carburetor / magneto fiddling. The only problem that I see with the motor is that the tiller collar spins on the leg of the motor- a common problem for motors of this period and up into the 1950s that had the tiller connected in such a manner. I have not done anything to see if this may tighten up or not. The motor may need that rubber vibration damper collar to be replaced or shimmed. NO RESERVE!!!!

TRANSACTION TERMS:

Cash payment due upon pickup, if pickup is going to be after one week’s time then paypal payment required. I can hold a motor(s) for up to 30 days as long as its paid.

Renault Captur Compact SUV production version teased

Tue, 08 Jan 2013

Renault has started the tease for their Clio Crossover – likely the Renault Captur – ahead of a debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The booming market for compact crossovers to blat round our congested urban landscape sees car maker scrabbling to offer up a product that can take the fight to cars like the Nissan Juke, and Renault’s offering in the market will arrive at the Geneva Motor Show in March – the Renault Captur. Before you get too excited, the production version of the Renault Captur appears to have little in common with the Captur Concept we saw at Geneva in 2011 – except for the name – and looks likely to be nothing more than a high-riding Clio 4 with added butchness.

EBay exotic: 1974 Alfa Romeo Berlina 2000

Mon, 11 Jul 2011

I'm a sucker for a four-door Alfa, and this bright red Berlina 2000 posted by our friends at Bring a Trailer has yours truly all aflutter this morning. Formerly owned by an Alfa Romeo employee in the United States, this car shows just a tick less than 89,000 original miles and wears fresh paint as of a few years ago. The seller, himself an Alfisti, claims that the gauges and mechanicals are all in correct working order, and the original factory air conditioning apparently operates as well as it did when new--which likely isn't very well, but still, it makes an interesting conversation piece.

Taxi! Toyota's unveils black cab for 2013 Tokyo Motor Show

Tue, 05 Nov 2013

Toyota will unveil five new concepts at this month's 2013 Toyota Motor Show and - rather fittingly - it's the JPN Taxi Concept that will be first off the rank. And it's most certainly the concept that's captured our imagination. Toyota JPN Taxi Concept Looking every inch the next generation London 'black cab', the Toyota JPN Taxi Concept has been conceived with the Japanese government's programme for designing buses and taxis that are more user-friendly.
