New other, was a factory second, due to a small chrome bur where center was pressed into the rim. Since then a mouse got in the box and now there is a small bit of rust in the bead area not visible when a tire is in place.
Brand:Cragar Wheels Warranty:No Manufacturer Part Number:8731 Country/Region of Manufacture:United States Surface Finish:Chrome

For sale is a new in the box, never used Cragar S/S wheel,  part number 8731. It is a 14x7 direct bolt wheel so it will fit five lug, 41/2" bolt circle vehicles only, pic 5, which include 1960 and up AMC passenger cars, Ford and Mopar passenger cars.. I classified this wheel as being, "new other" and " New unused with defects",  because a mouse chewed its way into the box, pic 10, and now there is some very minor surface rust in the bead area that is not visible when a tire is mounted on it. There was a small bur produced when the center was pressed into the wheel, pic 8, it is chromed so I think it is part of the center. I tried to remove it but it is very secure and not going anywhere. There is also a small raised spot 180 degrees to this spot, very minor you have to hunt for it. There is a big 2 stamped by one of the lug nut holes, pic 9, after Mr Magoo welded this wheel together it was classified a second, it was sold to me from Cragar as a first, I didn't even know they sold seconds! I only have one of this part number wheel. This wheel has a 3 13/16 inch back spacing according to my ruler, the wheel is 7 " wide bead to bead, and is 8" wide total, so this wheel puts a lot of the tire out from under the car, giving it that deep dish look.  This wheel was manufactured in the mid seventies, was in my speed shop since the late seventies, the eighties, and nineties , and into storage around 2005, so it has been handled a few times , thus the box is a little rough, but the wheel is an 9 on a ten scale.  I totally cleaned and sanitized the box and wheel and then polished it with Smithbrite to bring out the shine. Cragar used to sell "Cragar Wheel Care" in a spray can, looked and smelled like WD40 to me. A light coat of car wax was another old trick to preserve the chrome finish in bad weather. This wheel includes the original new cap that came in the box with it.  Cragar never included the lug nuts. with the pre drilled SS wheels .They require a short shank mag style lug nut with washer. The shank measures .600" long without the washer, and .670" od.  If spacers are required,  longer  shank nuts are required proportional to the thickness of the spacer. The rear of Cragar S/S style wheels is fairly flat, pic 3, so spacers may be required, rarely for calipers, more for rivets, drum weights, and or concave drums. It is best to trial mount the wheel with no tire to be sure there are none of these items that could prevent the wheel from bolting up flat. In the old days guys would come in the shop and complain about me selling them a warped wheel, we would go outside and look at the car and by darn there would be a drum weight keeping one side of the wheel from bolting up flat. Another tip is to have the tire mounted using the modern, "European clamp style" tire changers, the old post style changers ruined many a Cragar wheel.  If you are a buyer outside of the USA, contact me and I will figure out the most economical means of shipping.  If you have any questions about the compatibility of your vehicle and the parts I sell feel free to contact me through eBay. Thanks for looking.

Earthquake auction Ferrari 599 XX Evo handed to Google’s Benjamin Sloss

Tue, 11 Sep 2012

The Ferrari 599 XX Evo auctioned by Ferrari to raise funds for the earthquake in the Emilia Romagna region has been handed to Benjamin Sloss of Google. Back in May, following the earthquake in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy, Ferrari ran an auction to raise funds to help victims of the earthquake’ Amongst the items put up for auction by Ferrari were an F60 nose-cone and an F2008 engine, but the star lot was a brand new Ferrari 599 XX Evo, Ferrari’s track-day only testbed for all things Maranello. The winner of the 599 XX Evo turns out to be a deep-pocketed Google VP – Benjamin Sloss – who forked out €1.4 million for his new plaything (which was almost a bargain price) and, as part of the auction offering, he was rewarded for his generosity with a presentation of his new Ferrari at last weekend’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

Alfa Romeo & Mazda to build new roadster

Wed, 23 May 2012

Mazda & Alfa to jointly develop a new roadster Alfa Romeo and Fiat have signed an agreement to build a new new RWD roadster based on the next generation Mazda MX-5 platform. Sergio Marchionne is a big believer that the only way to survive as a mainstream car maker is to be as big as possible and share development costs whenever you can. Which explains – from the Fiat point of view – why Alfa Romeo has entered in to an agreement to produce a new roadster with Mazda to be based on the next generation Mazda MX-5 RWD platform.
