Fri, 03 Jun 2011Audi R8 GT Spyder - a mere £200k You didn’t think that Audi – Kings of the niche-fill – would settle for producing just 333 tin-top Audi R8 GT, did you? Of course not, so you’ve been expecting the next instalment in the race to make the most expensive Audi, and here it is – the Audi R8 GT Spyder. Just as it was with the R8 GT Coupe, the R8 GT Spyder will be limited to just 333 cars and all of those will come in LHD, even though Audi expect 30 to be sold in the UK.
Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept revealed
Wed, 30 Sep 2009The Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept will be at the Tokyo Motor Show The Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept has the usual flights of fancy, like double-length gullwing doors and a motorised dash that moves up and down to give thr driver the best view ahead. Powered by a 2.0 litre turbo-charged Boxer engine, the Hybrid Tourer also gets a pair of electric motors and a CVT ‘box (shame on the CVT.
Car makers to be forced to disclaim ‘Official’ economy figures
Wed, 10 Apr 2013We’ve banged on for a long time about the futility of official economy figures, especially as car makers get better and better at ‘gaming’ the official economy tests to produce the results they want. Much of the impetus to create the best headline economy figure for a car is driven by taxation, with car makers well aware that the better the official economy results are, the lower their CO2 will be (CO2 isn’t tested for – it’s just extrapolated from the official mpg) and the more appealing the car will be to buyers, particularly fleet buyers. But a ruling by the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) against Audi could at least see car makers having to admit in their adverts that the ‘official’ economy figure bears no relation to what owners can expect to achieve in the real world.
