Video: Yasushi Nakamuta on Mazda 3's 'unique' design process
Wed, 03 Jul 2013It may be leaden with PR-talk but this short presentation by Yasushi Nakamuta, Mazda's director of advanced design studio at the press unveiling of the new Mazda 3 in Melbourne is still worth a couple of minutes of your time. But while the 3 is undeniably attractive we can't help but feel that the 'unique' design process Nakamuta describes (which appears wholly conventional to us) has resulted in little more than a thoroughly normal product. The Mazda3 is already a better car than its sales would suggest, and the all new Mazda3 looks to be even more competition for the Ford Focus and VW Golf than ever before. Perhaps the only complaint about the Mazda3′s design is that it looks a bit too much like a shrunken Mazda6, but that’s a bit like moaning the DB9 looks like the Vanquish (well, the Mazda3′s not that good looking, but it makes the point).
Pininfarina exhibit opens at the Museo dell’Automobile di Torino
Tue, 22 Mar 2011The National Automobile Museum of Turin, Italy, has reopened its doors to welcome a bevy of Pininfarina models from past and present into its midst. The display takes on some of the milestone models of Pininfarina design and sees a wide selection of cars take up residence amidst the 200 others already on display at the recently renovated museum. Of the more desirable models being shown is a 1947 Cisitalia 202, the two seater berlinetta that has been described as 'moving sculpture' by Arthur Drexler, the highly influential curator and director at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
