When the automotive industry was in the midst of recession, the LA auto show carved out a niche for itself as the place to be seen to be green. Detroit represented the big, bad gas-guzzling old school, but the forward-thinking culture of southern California meant the relaxed atmosphere of the LA Convention Centre was the perfect setting to preview the smaller, more compact and more fuel-efficient future. MORE ‘CLOCKED’ cars are on the UK’s roads now after a rise in 2013 of cars with discrepancies in their recorded mileages. Experts say this signals a worrying trend of more dishonest car sellers ‘clocking’, or falsifying, a car’s mileage to make more money when the sell it. There had been a drop in the number of recorded incidences of clocking.

Car Design News and General Motors are pleased to announce the 2014 edition of the CDN-GM Interactive Design Competition is now open for entry. This is the fourth running of the contest that challenges the design students of North America to create GM's future, with the guidance of professional designers and fellow students. Up for grabs are six, three-month paid internships that offer the chance to work alongside GM's design teams at the world-famous Tech Center in Warren, MI.
