Hyundai Eon Launches in India from £3.5k
Thu, 13 Oct 2011Hyundai Eon launches in India from around £3.5k No, reasonable though it would be to assume so, the Hyundai Eon is not a new electric car, but it is Hyundai’s answer to the best-selling small car in India – the Suzuki Alto. Launched on the back of a 900 Crore investment by Hyundai in development and production for the Eon (a Crore is 10 million Rupees, so that’s about £125 million) the Eon is a big push by Hyundai to make a big dent in the burgeoning Indian market. The Eon comes with an 814cc 3-pot 55bhp petrol engine – which won’t exactly have Indian buyers flying along at breakneck speeds – and offers properly decent styling, rather than the toy car styling of something like the Tata Nano.
Saab sale to National Electric Vehicle Sweden confirmed
Wed, 13 Jun 2012The sale of a substantial portion of Saab assets to National Electric Vehicle Sweden has been confirmed. It’s taken a very long time, but Saab has finally found a new home in the hands of National Electric Vehicle Sweden, as we reported last week. National Electric Vehicles Sweden has been set up to take over the assets of Saab and is a consortium of Japanese, Swedish and Chinese stakeholders, but it does not get the contentious Saab 9-5 technology that has dogged the sale of Saab so far.
Volkswagen to take full control of Porsche
Thu, 05 Jul 2012Volkswagen Group's decision to take full control of Porsche Automobil Holding SE's carmaking business is seen as positive by analysts. VW said it has agreed to buy the remaining 50.1 percent of Porsche SE's automotive business that it doesn't already own for 4.46 billion euros ($5.54 billion), ending a seven-year takeover saga that divided two of Germany's most powerful families. The agreement means Volkswagen can now fully fold the Porsche automaking business into its stable of brands, which range from Audi and Bentley sedans to Skoda and Seat volume models and Ducati motorbikes.
