Up for sale is a custom Jeep "eBrake Kit" consisting of a Genuine Jeep New Old Stock Original Equipment Manufacturer "Emergency Parking Brake Foot Pedal Assembly” (includes all pedal assembly parts) plus a unique "Insulated Male / Female Connector" designed specifically for the "parking brake light switch". The "Custom Connector" is provided for the older Jeeps manufactured prior to 1993 which used a male "bullet" style wire connector vs. a male "blade" style wire connector for the parking brake light switch. This convenient "eBrake Kit" fits the following Jeep Wrangler YJ and CJ models and eliminates the need to cut, splice, solder and heat shrink the electrical wires and connectors way up under the dash and steering wheel which makes the wiring installation fast, simple and painless:

·         1976-1983 Jeep CJ-5

·         1976-1986 Jeep CJ-7

·         1981-1986 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler

·         1987-1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ

·         1991-1993 Jeep Renegade YJ

DIY: If you are not familiar with replacing these eBrake assemblies don't worry because it is fairly straight forward and requires only basic hand tools. Start by removing the two nuts and single bolt that secure the eBrake assembly. A single bolt with a 7/16" SAE head is located just under the left side dash about an inch or so to the left of the "brake release handle rod" (easy to find, just feel or look up). The other two bolts with 1/2" SAE nuts are located on the firewall (under the hood) to the far right of the "Master Brake Cylinder" (easy to find, just look for two exposed bolts with attached nuts protruding through the firewall next to the fender). That done,...the next step is to release the pressure on the emergency brake cable. To do this first find the "equalizer bracket" which is located where the front brake cable connects with the two rear wheel brake cables (this is also very easy to find, as they are all located under the Jeep just in front of the rear wheel on the driver's side). You will need a couple of SAE open-end wrenches or adjustable wrenches for this step and you should mark where the adjustment nuts are positioned on the cable adjustment rod for your reference during re-assembly. Once the pressure is released from the cable at the equalizer bracket, the other end of the cable can now be removed from the eBrake assembly (under the dash) with a pair of pliers. Almost done,...the last step is to unplug the parking brake warning light switch (wire connector) before removing the old eBrake assembly from the Jeep.

Install the new eBrake basically in the reverse order, checking to ensure the brake cable tension is set appropriately at the equalizer bracket (start at the position it was in originally...which you hopefully marked earlier). Make sure the parking brake engages properly (stops the vehicle) and releases properly (doesn't cause either of the rear brakes to drag). Reconnect the parking brake warning light switch (wire connector) using the "custom insulated male / female connector" when appropriate and check to make sure the brake light illuminates when the pedal is fully depressed. That's it, fairly simple. Most customers tell me they completed the job in an hour or less.

Dear mcleodmotors, It came yesterday and we put it on last night. We have an 87 Wrangler with 2.5 l manual trans. It fit perfect easy to install and works great thank you. LK California City, CA

Dear mcleodmotors, I bought the eBrake Kit so the jeep will pass inspection. Bad switch, that they don't make anymore. Here in Virginia if the e-brake doesn't hold, it fails and if the brake warning light doesn't illuminate when it's engaged, it fails. The e-brake would hold, sometimes (I think the ratchet is worn out, but the switch (bullet type) is toast). They are pretty strict here. At least I'm not in one of the counties that require an emissions test, although, I think 25 years and older are exempt from emissions. It is an 88 YJ. I just got the eBrake Kit about an hour ago and installed the pedal assembly in under 10 minutes. It took another 30 or so to adjust the cable tension (rusty). The custom connector made the install a breeze. No need to cut and put a blade plug on the wire. Anytime I don't have to contort up under the dash/steering wheel is a bonus in my book. Works like a charm! That was super fast shipping too. Thanks again, DE Charlottesville, VA

Dear mcleodmotors, Perfect fit on my '88 wrangler...thank you!  TL Orland, CA

Dear mcleodmotors, This went into a 1992 Jeep Wrangler YJ. Fit right in without any problems. Seems to work as it should. RM Graham, WA

Dear mcleodmotors, Brake assembly installed and working great in my 1993 Wrangler YJ Base. BJ Cedar Glen, CA

Dear mcleodmotors, Hi, I installed the e brake on my 1993 Jeep wrangler and it works great. I did not need the custom adapter the connection from my jeep matched up just fine. The only hard part was getting that darn cable clamp pinched to remove the cable assembly from my old unit..lol...hand to clamp the brake lines to loosen the tension also without having to readjust everything. All and all it only took me about 1 hour start to finish. Thank you!  MM Newman Lake, WA

Dear mcleodmotors, Perfect fit for my 1994 Wrangler. Works great. New condition. Fast delivery. JG Jacksonville Beach, FL

Jaguar XJ_e PHEV Plug-in Hybrid wins RAC Awards

Tue, 06 Nov 2012

The Jaguar XJ_e PHEV plug-in hybrid has won the RAC ‘Most Energy Efficient Luxury Car Prototype’ and ‘Technical Panel’s Award of Merit’. This year, Jaguar rolled out its experimental hybrid XJ – the Jaguar XJ_e, which we saw at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed – which managed to win the award for ‘Most Energy Efficient Luxury Car Prototype’ and also grabbed the Technical Panel’s ‘Award of Merit’ for its clever tech and frugal transit. Jaguar entered three XJ_e PHEV experimental cars in to the FCC, which managed to do the Brighton to London run on just 1.2 litres of petrol and 11kWh of electricity which adds up to an mpg of around 125mpg.

Lexus LF-LC Coupe heading for production

Mon, 16 Jul 2012

It looks like the impressive Lexus LF-LC Concept is heading for production as Lexus tries to inject some sportiness in to their brand. The stunning Lexus LF-LC Concept we saw at the Detroit Motor Show in January was certainly the most impressive Lexus concept for some time, although Lexus made it clear it was just a showcase of what their US designers were capable of envisaging. But we thought at the time that the LF-LC had potential as a proper halo coupe for Lexus (ignoring the stand-alone, madly priced LFA) that could be brought to market as an LS Coupe – the Lexus LC, perhaps?
