Official: Aston Martin gets its hands on Mercedes AMG engines & Electronic Architecture
Thu, 25 Jul 2013Aston Martin & AMG confirm they’re getting in bed together Back in December we reported that Aston Martin had new investment from Investindustrial and wondered if that would mean – thanks to an existing relationship between Investindustrial and AMG – if we’d see Aston Martin finally getting access to AMG’s engines and platforms. By May, things had moved on and it was clear that Aston Martin and AMG were in talks for Aston Martin to get access to their engines for the next generation of AML’s cars. Now those talks have borne fruit and AMG and AML have signed a letter of intent for Aston Martin to “access significant Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Mercedes-Benz Cars’ resources, allowing the development of bespoke V8 powertrains and the use of certain components of electric/electronic (e/e) architecture.” Interestingly, there’s no talk of V12 engines – which could mean Aston Martin are going to move from the current Ford V12 for the DB9 and Vanquish to a powerful V8 from AMG – and nor is there talk of sharing platforms.
Lamborghini Huracan: OFFICIAL
Fri, 20 Dec 2013Lamborghini Huracan: OFFICIAL It’s always an event to see the arrival of a real new model from Lamborghini – rather than a tititavtion of an existing model – and the reveal of the Lamborghini Gallardo’s replacement is even more joyous as it brings to an end the daft attempt at a viral tease Lamborghini embarked on with the Hexagon Project. So here we have it – the Lamborghini Huracan LP-6104 – with styling that evolves to be more flowing – and more like the Aventador – all-wheel-drive and 602bhp from its 5.2 litre V10. Underpinning the Huracan is a new platform – that will also underpin the next Audi R8 – mixing aluminium and carbon fibre but, unlike the McLaren 12C, doesn’t make use of a carbon fibre monocoque.
New Ford Kuga (2012) to debut at Los Angeles Motor Show
Wed, 05 Oct 20112012 Ford Kuga / Escape to debut at Los Angeles 2011 - based on the Vertrek Concept (above) Yes, strictly speaking the debut of the new Ford Kuga at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November is actually for the 2013 Ford Escape. But in the new ‘One World’ of Ford the new Escape – based on the Ford Vertrek Concept from this year’s Detroit Motor Show – will, with just a few changes, become Europe’s new Ford Kuga. What makes it even more certain that the Escape is much the same as the Kuga will be is news on the engines.
