True Once-In-A-Lifetime opportunity.  Original race car spoilers from Mark Donohue’s race car.

The Story:  These parts were obtained from Mark Donohue by my client William (Bill) Mitchell.  Bill was a friend, business partner, and racing buddy of Mark and was given these parts to aid Bill in his racing endeavors in the 1970’s. These spoilers were older/superseded designs that Penske no longer needed (but the thought process was that the second best Penske design was still better than any off the shelf item available at the time).  Some were adapted to Bills cars (Bill raced a Lola, Brabham, and a few other cars during that time), while the rest were stored in the attic nearly 40 years ago where they have sat until my recent discovery of them (see third to last photo).

What’s Included in This Auction:  This auction includes 4 spoilers (2 sets) as shown in FIRST 7 PHOTO’s ONLY.  The yellow painted set looks to be constructed of fiberglass with stamped metal trim attached.  The primed set looks to be of similar construction with no metal trim and are lighter in weight (these primed units would be great to paint up in your favorite Penske livery or the like).  All other photo’s are shown for authentication only and not included.  I don’t know what car these came off, but the yellow ones look very similar in construction/size to the 1972 Indy 500 car (see provided photo).  Be advised that some of the provided pictures are of the underside of spoiler, so that may throw you off in the comparison.  The yellow ones each measure 12.5” x 16” at their longest points, the primed; 12.5” x 18”.

Condition: Used- may or may not contain minor incidental track nicks/chips/cracks as well as dirt/grime.  Pieces have been cold water rinsed to remove any storage dust, but original “race patina” has not been scrubbed away.

Authenticity:  I have a stack of letters/correspondence to Bill from Mark (some signed as shown) which corroborate their friendship/business dealings (see samples, last 2 photos).  I will provide a letter to the winning bidder from Bill attesting to the fact that he received these parts from Mark at the Penske Racing facility in the 1970's (see last photo for contents).

the Original/Signed Donohue letters alone are probably worth $300+,  Money Back if not well pleased

Toyota GT86 Convertible spied in South Africa

Sat, 16 Feb 2013

Ahead of a reveal of a concept version of the Toyota GT86 Convertible at the Geneva Motor Show, the soft-top GT86 has been spied Almost a year ago we learned that a Toyota GT86 Convertible was in the planning after Toyota’s chief engineer, Tetsuya Tada, revealed that the GT86 (and therefore the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ) were designed to be a convertible from the start. Shortly after that revelation, we saw the first glimpse of a future GT86 Convertible in the shape of the Scion FR-S Speedster at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, an officially sanctioned speedster version of the GT86 created by Iacona Design and Cartel Customs. Most recently, Toyota revealed that they are taking the  the FT-86 Open Concept to next month’s Geneva Motor Show, a car that looks to preview an almost production-ready GT86 Convertible, which could arrive in production guise before the end of 2013.
