Maybach reaches end of the line

Daimler AG is set to announce the closure of its Maybach ultra luxury brand this weekend, according to reports. The underperforming 57 and 62 limousines are to be killed off in 2013, following a decision from chairman Dieter Zetsche who has elected not to invest in their respective replacements for 2014. Following a concept car preview at the 1997 Tokyo motor show, Maybach was resurrected in 2002 after Daimler AG failed to purchase either Rolls-Royce or Bentley from then owners, Vickers.

McLaren confirms limited run of 12C GT Can-Am racers

It's been a busy weekend for McLaren: not only did Lewis win the 2012 US grand prix, but the car-making division confirmed it would build the most powerful MP4-12C yet – the new 12C GT Can-Am Edition. It's the track-focused 12C racer and Woking has sanctioned a limited run 'of no more than 30 examples.' McLaren MP4-12C Can-Am: the background It's a maxxed-up version of the MP4-12C road car, which has so impressed us since launch. Peugeot 308 wins European Car of the Year 2014

The new family hatchback fought off competition from the likes of the tech tour de force Mercedes S-class and slick-driving new Mazda 3 to take the gong. The 308 also bested BMW’s i3 EV, which won the UK Car of the Year award, and the acclaimed Tesla Model S electric saloon.
