CAP – the used car price specialists – are warning that used car prices, particularly ’almost’ new car prices, are set to tumble as nearly new cars hit the market. The car market in the UK has proved amazingly resilient to the general malaise in the economy, with new car sales continuing to rise strongly and used cars seemingly immune to big depreciation drops. But CAP – who gauge used car prices for the motor trade – are warning that this could be about to change as the impact of recent trading in new cars is about to start impacting on used car prices, particularly prices for cars less than a year old.

UK still a nation of middle-lane hoggers

DRIVERS in the UK are still hogging the middle lane and the M25 is the worst road for this poor driving habit. One in six British drivers admits hogging the middle lane and drivers over the age of 65 are the most likely to do this. Five of the top 10 worst stretches of road for middle lane hoggers were on the M25 that orbits London, making it the worst road in the UK for this driving behaviour.

The Volkswagen Beetle is on its way back, and this time around, it will be focused more on driving dynamics than on efforts to resurrect the past. Expected to appear in concept form at the Los Angeles auto show late this year, the second-generation version of the modern-day Beetle goes on sale in the United States in May 2011. A convertible with a fabric top will follow about a year later.
