Design Contest: Stile Italiano Giovani 2004
Fri, 22 Oct 2004One of the sad things about being editor of a motoring magazine is turning down all the enthusiastic young job applicants who know exactly how to test Ferraris against Lamborghinis, using Porsches as benchmarks...exactly the kind of people I don't need. I imagine it might be the same with judging a design competition. There will be masses of young people who love drawing cars submitting their sketches - and there it all ends.
Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid (2010): first photos
Thu, 11 Feb 2010By Tim Pollard First Official Pictures 11 February 2010 12:05 If you thought hybrids were dull, check out this petrol-electric car: the new Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid. Due to bow in at the 2010 Geneva motor show, the hybrid Porsche will race at the Nurburgring 24hrs in May 2010 as an experimental green race car.Porsche calls it 'Porsche Intelligent Performance' – a marketing phrase we're bound to hear more of, as Zuffenhausen develops its hybrid technology to dispel fears of the long-term future of sports cars. Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid: the tech storyThe hybrid 911 takes a conventional GT3 R race car and adds an electrically powered front axle.
Porsche 918 Spyder hits the Nurburgring (video)
Sun, 22 Jul 2012The Porsche 918 Spyder – Porsche’s hybrid replacement for the Carrera GT – has been caught on video at the Nurburgring. Incredibly, it’s more that two years since Porsche took the wraps of the 918 Spyder at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, yet we’re still more than a year away from actually seeing production cars. But Porsche are putting their time to good use. Porsche has made a few cosmetic tweaks already from the original 918 Concept, but they’ve also let it be known that the 918 Spyder will get a 550bhp 4.6 litre V8 to go with its electric motors on the front wheels (one less motor than originally envisaged – there was going to be one one the back axle too), which will make the 918 Spyder a FWD Porsche when in EV mode.
