Paragon Hf-7 Chris Craft Pair Of Revese Gears / Transmissions 2 To 1 Ratio on 2040-parts.com
Akron, Ohio, United States
I have up for bid a pair of Paragon HF-7 reverse gears or transmissions that were removed from an old Chris Craft that was being scrapped. My father purchased these years ago to have as spares for an old Chris that he used to own. He sold his boat a few years ago but never used these Paragons and the new owner of the boat didn't want them. So I don't know the running condition of these units. but the fluid is clean, red and doesn't have a burnt smell to it. They have been stored inside in a dry location. They have a little light surface rust in some places where the paint is missing and they are a little dusty and dirty for being in storage. They look to be complete and rotate freely if you turn the input shaft.
They are both Paragon HF-7 models and set up for 2 to 1 reduction gears. The right hand one is model: HF-7B2-R serial number: 5D8348. The left hand one is model: HF-7B2-L serial number: 5D4670. These both have the one piece output shafts/gears that drive the reduction gears. I mention this since at one time Paragon built these HF-7s where the output shaft had a replaceable gear that drove the reduction gear. This allowed them to build a basic reverse gear and then since the output shaft was cut with splines, they could just add a gear to make any gear ratio they needed like 1.5 to 1, 2.0-1 or 2.5-1 reduction set up. This was a good plan until the splines and the gear would wear some and cause problems of the gear getting loose on the shaft and noise since the output gear was clunking around on the shaft. They got away from that design and them made one piece output shafts for each reduction gear ratio to eliminate these problems. These one piece shafts were difficult find and expensive to buy as replacements 20 years ago. So if you need these shafts, they are the newer and better style/design. If you look at the pictures, I also have the bare housing for one of the reduction gears. This is because the guy my father bought these gears from used one reduction gear for the boat he owned and took the parts from this housing. But I will include reduction gear housing along with the reverse gears. These might be good to go as working reverse gears, but I can't guarantee that to be true since we didn't actually remove them ourselves from the Chris that was being scrapped. We bought them after they were pulled, so we never heard or saw them work. So I have to sell them AS IS with no guarantee. Since they are probably from the 1960's, I hope you understand why I can't guarantee them. Anyway, since they are complete units, they would also be good to have as re-buildable cores or spares if you have these in your boat. Speaking of rebuilding these HF-7, most of the internal parts will interchange between the different reduction gear set-ups. As long as you have the right ratio output shaft (like I mentioned above) you can make these whatever ratio you need if you're having one rebuilt. Anyway, it's time to move these out of here and I hope someone can use them for their classic boat. NOTE: These things are HEAVY, so local pick up is probably the best way to deal with shipping on these. I am located in the Akron, OH area if you want to pick them up. But I could also deliver them to the Sandusky/Port Clinton/Toledo, Ohio areas (Lake Eire Islands) or meet you somewhere close to those places. Basically, we might be able to work something out if you're in Northeast Ohio too. If you'd want them shipped, they would definitely have to go truck freight since they are so heavy. I would be willing to work with you on shipping them by truck, if you set up the shipping through a carrier of your choice (such as Freight Quote). I would also have to charge you $50.00 for crating them and putting them on a pallet. The Charge would be the lumber, screws, bolts and time needed to build a crate for them. Please contact me to discuss shipping them by truck before you bid on them. Thanks for looking at my listing and please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you might have before you bid. |

170hp Land Rover Defender goes rallying
Fri, 01 Nov 2013Well, this is the most brilliantly bonkers idea we’ve seen in a while – Land Rover has gotten together with Bowler, noted tuner of Land Rover products, and concocted a one-make rally series. For the Defender. No, seriously.
