Google driverless cars ‘safer than humans’

Google claims that its driverless cars are now safer than human motorists, after analysing testing data gathered over thousands of experimental miles of assessment. The Internet search giant has been developing its controversial autonomous cars for several years, adapting a fleet of 10 vehicles – including six Toyota Prius hybrids, three Lexus RX450h off-roaders and an Audi TT – to drive by themselves. Nissan have developed 'Driver Assist' to make crashes a things of the past Driver Assist uses GPS to track the car’s progress, and set it up in advance on twists and turns in the road. The system uses integral sensors to check how the driver is setting the car up for the corner and adjusts the settings if the driver is not getting it right. It can correct over or under steer by applying braking to any of the wheels individually and even adjust the torque to make sure the car goes where the driver intends.

First details of new Volkswagen Golf revealed; GTi planned for Paris

Volkswagen has revealed the first details of its seventh-generation Golf--including a classy new interior--at a heavily cloaked press event ahead of the car's official unveiling in September in Berlin. The Golf, VW's perennial best seller, has raked in worldwide sales of more 29 million cars over 38 years of production. The new model, which is described as being up to 23 percent more economical than its predecessor, is planned to go on sale across Europe in November, replacing today's model, introduced in 2008.
