This 85hp engine was pulled out of my 1987 Amel sailboat and would start up and run well. The motor got the boat from Grenada to Delaware this winter. I am repowering with a new Yanmar. The motor did leak some oil on the trip. We aren't sure where the leak is. Total hours are unknown but my guess is around 8000. If ever an engine deserved the name "Workhorse" it’s this one. It’s excellent reputation around the world for reliability, durability, and simplicity makes this engine a favorite amongst serious boaters. There are high volumes of the 4.236 engines in use throughout the world, not only in the marine environment. Hence, the good availability of engine parts. This comes with the hurth transmission The transmission can free wheel if the buyer decides to add a shaft alternator.
