Electric cars amped up with £500 million boost
Tue, 29 Apr 2014THE GOVERNMENT is to extend the £5,000 grant scheme open to anyone who buys a car with plug-in electric power. It is part of a £500 million move to encourage car owners – and city authorities – to take up the electric car baton and run with it. The initiative will give cities a chance to win government funding to further the sales of electric cars in their areas, for example by allowing them to use bus lanes or park for free.
2013 Ford Mondeo – first photo, and it’s not the 2013 Fusion
Tue, 10 Jan 2012First photo of the 2013 Ford Mondeo The North American Ford Fusion has been revealed at Detroit, but we have the first photo of its European cousin – the 2013 Ford Mondeo. We’ve covered the reveal of the 2013 Ford Fusion from the Detroit Auto Show and pointed out that, to all intents and purposes, the Fusion North America gets is pretty much the same car we’ll see as the 2013 Ford Mondeo. But just so there’s no confusion, we’ve got the first photos of the 2013 Mondeo in pre-production guise, just so you can see how similar the Mondeo will be to the Fusion.
Lotus to invest £500 million to build Esprit, Eterne, Elite & Elan. 1900 new jobs
Mon, 31 Oct 2011The new Lotus Esprit Dany Bahar – Lotus boss – revealed plans at last year’s Paris Motor Show to turn Lotus in to an East Anglian Aston Martin. Those plans included one car we knew about – the new Lotus Esprit – and a number we didn’t – the Lotus Eterne, Lotus Elite, Lotus Elan and a new Lotus Elite. But the plans seemed to be nothing more than a wish list, and although it was intimated that Lotus owners Proton were going to provide a war chest of £770 million to fund the development, that later appeared to be an intent to provide Lotus with funds to develop a new range of cars, rather than an actual commitment.
