General Motors to keep green car technology in house

For the first time in its 100-year history, General Motors plans to design, develop and manufacture electric motors for its growing array of gasoline-electric hybrids and electric vehicles. The electric motors used in GM's current lineup of hybrids are made to GM specifications by outside vendors. GM wants to bring the design and manufacturing in-house to save money and to apply its own technology to boost performance, lower weight and reduce power consumption, said Larry Nitz, GM's chief hybrid powertrain engineer.

General Motor's Buick brand is blossoming in China, so the automaker chose the largest Chinese Auto Show this year to unveil its latest concept: the Invicta. Unlike the Riviera concept shown in Shanghai last year, the Invicta is slated for production soon given the level of refinement we saw when we viewed the car in Beijing. And unlike some market-specific new cars unveiled at the show, the Invicta will make its way to other markets across the globe. Peugeot 2008 DKR (pictured) gets 340 bhp turbo diesel to fight the Dakar Rally The days of Peugeot’s motorsport activities being integral to the brand’s identity are long gone, but Peugeot are still playing motorsports with a few headline grabbing projects like Sebastian Loeb’s Pikes Peak car. But Peugeot’s motorsport activities at the moment are extending a bit further than hitting Pikes Peak (and the Goodwood hillclimb) in a monstrous Peugeot 208 T16, and a 2008 to take on the Dakar Rally was revealed back in April. Then, we got to see the Peugeot 2008 DKR in all its Mad Max glory, but Peugeot were being a bit circumspect about what was underneath their Apocalypse-taming Rally Raid Monster.
