A nice used pni V-2000 electronic compass/ outside thermometer. Works great. I can be used either with an internal battery or 12V power cord. The screen is backlit when using 12V power. Includes the 12V power cord, the external thermometer cable, and a dask mount. Works great! I no longer need it because my vehicle now has one built in. Here are details from the manufacturer: V2000 Digital Vehicle Compass offers accurate, affordable compass technology for your car! It uses the same technology as the built-in compasses in GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicles. Easy and informative, yet chock full of some of the most accurate compass technology available for vehicles. Plus, it can tell you inside / outside temperatures and alert you when conditions are right for dangerous black ice to form on the roadway. More: Amazingly accurate... magnetic sensor technology electronically measures your vehicle's magnetic field and calibrates for inaccuracies mathematically with its built-in microprocessor. The result? Unequaled compass performance in a vehicle environment. Displays direction of travel in three different formats: 1) cardinal points; 2) numeric digits; and 3) compass rose Indicates inside / outside temps in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. Displays ICE alert at 35 F or 1 C to warn of freezing conditions and potential black ice on the roadway. One-step calibration is fast and easy... just press a button and drive your vehicle in a circle once... the Compass does the rest. Auto-shut off occurs if no magnetic field changes are sensed within approx, 10 minutes time. Extends battery life! Back-lit for easy nighttime viewing. Programmable Back-light auto shut-off allows you to set backlighting to turn off after a certain length of time, significantly increasing battery life. Photo sensor turns the backlight on or off automatically depending on the amount of ambient light present. Magnetic Distortion Flag indicates when magnetic interference from outside sources such as steel from a bridge or overpass are affecting compass accuracy. Easy-to-see holographic LCD improves brightness and contrast while minimizing glare Requires (1) CR123 lithium battery (included).

Mini Cooper Countryman gets New York freshening

Tue, 15 Apr 2014

The Mini Countryman has undergone a subtle midlife facelift for the New York auto show, four years after it was launched in North America. The lightly reworked range-topping Mini Countryman model is expected to go on sale in July at prices company officials suggest will remain largely unchanged here in the U.S. As this first batch of official photographs reveals, there is very little to distinguish the refreshed Countryman from the existing model.

Highway Code braking distances questioned

Thu, 14 Aug 2014

THE ACCURACY of facts and figures in the Highway Code has been called into question after research by the RAC showed that many drivers underestimate official stopping distances. As part of the organisation's Report on Motoring 2014, drivers were asked to identify the Highway Code's stated stopping distances from different speeds, but the majority “seriously underestimated” the figures. However, a separate survey by Right Driver of 1,000 Advanced Driving Instructors (ADIs) revealed that the vast majority strongly believe that the official braking distances have become irrelevant and should be updated.
