By Jason Golembo First Official Pictures 27 October 2006 08:43 VW Golf GTi Edition 30: the lowdown Next year marks the 30th anniversary of the Golf GTi's UK launch, and to celebrate, Volkswagen will release 1500 of this GTi Edition 30. Complete with uprated 230PS (or 227bhp) engine, deeper bodykit and an interior makeover, the special edition is the fastest version of the hot hatch to date. The engineers have tweaked the 2.0-litre turbo's engine management, to extract the additional 30bhp.

GM director advanced design Frank Saucedo features in a new video explaining the design process behind the new Elmiraj concept. Saucedo, who oversaw the concept's development at GM's advanced design studio in North Hollywood, California, talks about how the Elmiraj – the second in a series of three concept cars that began with last's year Ciel – is a study of how they can progress and evolve the carmaker's ‘Art and Science' design philosophy. GM's interior design manager Gael Buzyn and exterior design manager Niki Smart also feature, with Smart explaining how the Elmiraj concept is focused on the notion of ‘the drive' and has been designed to reflect dynamism while the Ciel was about ‘the journey', represented by a luxurious interior.

Jeremy, Tesla and Lotus Just over two years ago Top Gear took a Tesla Roadster to Dunsfold and played. And Tesla got the arse because Top Gear ‘staged’ the Tesla running out of juice. Jeremy Clarkson subsequently defended what they did – pushing the Tesla in to a garage – to demonstrate the biggest drawbacks of an electric car, like lousy range and refuelling measured in hours rather than minutes.
